BDO Stoy Hayward wanted the opportunity to extend and develop new relationships with key partners and potential clients across the legal community. They teamed up with the C&I Group (the UK association of in-house lawyers) to explore the key issue of fees between commercial law firms and in-house legal teams. Both groups are key clients for BDO.

An in-depth research programme (including an online survey and a series of interviews) provided the basis for an ongoing debate about quality, risk sharing and value creation. Participants included senior in-house counsel from leading organisations such as Electronic Data Systems, Gallaher Group, Network Rail and Royal & Sun Alliance.

The resulting research report was distributed to 6,000 C&I members and BDO contacts, used as the basis for a series of focus groups, round tables and client presentations – and also secured extensive press coverage, in The Lawyer, Legal Week, Managing Partner, Corporate Counsel and a Financial Times supplement.
